About

Shannon Gabriel, hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, has established himself as a key member of the West Indies bowling attack. Known for his muscular presence and pace, Gabriel has been likened to a young Ian Bishop. Gabriel made a name for himself in first-class cricket, representing Trinidad and Tobago and earning a spot in the Champions League T20 in 2011. In April 2012, he produced a memorable performance, taking a maiden five-wicket haul against Barbados in the semi-final of the regional four-day competition. His Test debut came in 2012 during the tour of England, where he showcased his talent by claiming four wickets at Lord's. However, his tour was cut short due to a back injury. Gabriel's return to Test cricket came a year later, and he has since become a regular member of the West Indies side, known for his aggressive and enforcer-like bowling style. Gabriel's standout performances include a six-wicket haul against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in 2016 and a remarkable nine-wicket haul against the same opponent in Bridgetown, which helped West Indies level the series. Additionally, his notable performance of 13 wickets against Sri Lanka in Gros Islet in 2018 contributed to a drawn match. However, Gabriel faced criticism for an infamous dismissal in 2017 against Pakistan in Roseau. With the match and series hanging in the balance, Gabriel played an ill-judged shot and got out, resulting in a loss for West Indies and the final Test appearances for Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq. Despite occasional setbacks, Shannon Gabriel's raw pace and ability to take wickets make him a valuable asset for the West Indies cricket team.
